Wellsboro, Pa. – Worshipers in Wellsboro have until Sunday, November 7 to vote for their favorite Main Street – an iconic, oft-photographed, Norman Rockwell scene.
Wellsboro has been nominated for the Independent We Stand 2021 America’s Main Streets competition. The grand prize is $ 25,000 in cash for downtown revitalization and âbuy localâ activities. Voting for the top 25 quarterfinals began Monday afternoon, September 13, and will end at 11:59:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 7.
The fountain on The Green in Wellsboro features the bronze statue of Wynken, Blynken and Nod.
âIndependent We Stand decided to host the competition this year and I nominated Wellsboro. On Monday, I learned that Wellsboro’s nomination had been approved,â said Kevin Coolidge, owner of From My Shelf Books & Gifts, an independent bookstore in Wellsboro.
Under the contest rules, anyone 18 years of age or older at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 13 can vote online for Wellsboro once every 24 hours through November 7 from their IP address by visiting www.mainstreetcontest.com, by clicking on the photo of Main Street in Wellsboro, then on âVoteâ.
Or, people can vote once a day by going to the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page or the From the My Shelf Books Facebook page.
âIn the inaugural competition in 2016, Wellsboro was named one of the top 10 semi-finalists but did not win,â said Coolidge, a member of the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce. Coolidge nominated Wellsboro for the 2016 competition, as well as the 2017 and 2019 competitions and now this year’s one.
“I am voting for Wellsboro to earn $ 25,000 to invest in our downtown area. People can help Wellsboro by voting online every day,” he said.
If Wellsboro is named one of the Top 25 Voters, people will be invited to help the city become one of the 10 semi-finalists by voting online daily in the second round which will be held Monday, November 15 at 10 a.m. Sunday 10 December. 12 at 23:59:59
The grand prize winner will be selected from the top 10 and notified of the victory on Monday December 13 and announced to the public on Monday December 20.
The grand prize is a check for $ 25,000; a $ 1,000 certificate for STIHL equipment; Do it Best Corp. $ 500 of shopping; PPG $ 500 in shopping; $ 500 nationwide Marketing Group shopping; tmbr $ 500 in shopping; public relations and social media recognition; and a special plaque awarded to the winner to display proudly.
Launched in 2016 by Independent We Stand, the national small business movement, the goal of this competition is to promote the importance and strong economic benefits of main streets and small businesses that help them thrive and how communities can educate their neighbors on the many benefits of âbuying localâ.
