After Jaguars owner Shad Khan said Urban Meyer will need to regain the team’s confidence after viral videos of head coach Meyer were released on the “Meyer’s Urban Radio ShowâTuesday afternoon that ‘the conversations were horrible’.
Several videos have surfaced showing a woman dancing alongside Meyer at her bar and restaurant, Urban Meyer’s Pint House, in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday night. Meyer stayed in Ohio after the Jaguars’ loss to Cincinnati on Thursday to visit his grandchildren. In his apology on Monday, Meyer said he regretted not leaving the bar when people tried to dance with him.
Jacksonville is one of two NFL teams yet to claim a win this season. With the focus on Meyer and his latest indiscretion off the field, the head coach said it’s up to team leaders to keep the squad focused as they seek to avoid the franchise’s 20th straight loss.
âI don’t believe it’s in my camp,â Meyer said. “… The team leaders are going to make that decision. It depends on how much trust you have built with them, how we structure everything this week and how we focus on winning this game. …
“I’ll be as clear as I can; our staff are working very hard. But you know as well as I do that the ownership of this team is with the players.”
Meyer apologized to his players on Monday and told reporters he has a good relationship with his team despite the go viral and the 0-4 start.
âI dealt with this on the other side with staff and stuff and handled it,â Meyer said. “So, to say I’m worried? Yeah, I’m worried, but I just gotta do the right thing.”
