We’re Justin Barney from 88Nine and Kpolly from Milwaukee Film. We are pals, we love cinema – we are Cinebuds.
This week, we are talking about concert films. To be clear, we’re not talking about musical documentaries – these are films that document a concert.
There is a Thanksgiving Day tradition of watching “The Last Waltz,” a documentary about the band’s last concert, which they performed on Thanksgiving Day. Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, and The Staples Singers all make appearances. Even Ringo Starr is there.
And of course, it was directed by Martin Scorsese. Despite this, Kpolly admits he’s never seen him before. I explain why he should change that. Hear us talk about this classic and share our picks for our other favorite concert documentaries below.
