In memory of Milton

It’s not every day that you hear about an obituary calling for a bet. However, a feature of The Hasting Tribune to commemorate the life of former Nebraska resident Milton A. Munson did so recently, and people delivered in an amazing way.

an irresponsible bet ”

Munson, a 73-year-old veteran who served in the US Air Force, followed the Nebraska Cornhuskers from the NCAA throughout his life. Her sons published an obituary in the local newspaper last week with a special request. In memory of their father, they asked readers to place an “irresponsible bet” on the Huskers’ next game against the Iowa Hawkeyes this Friday.

As reported by the Lincoln Journal Star, two local radio hosts picked up the story this week and decided to make the Munsons wish come true. Together, they’ve created a GoFundMe page to raise money for a giant bet on the Cornhuskers, and so far they’ve raised around $ 8,739 of their $ 10,000 goal.

A shocking response

KOZN-AM radio hosts Josh Peterson and KLIN-AM’s Jack Mitchell spearhead the campaign. Talk with the Lincoln Journal Star, Mitchell said, “Josh and I kind of hatched this Monday afternoon like this little thing. We thought we should just centralize everything and make a big bet on his behalf and remember Milt.

A total of 125 people have donated to Munson’s cause so far. Peterson took to Twitter to thank everyone for their support on Tuesday when GoFundMe donations reached nearly $ 5,000:

Although the radio hosts plan to place a large bet with the money, they have confirmed that, depending on the family’s wishes, the majority of the funds will go to a local charity called the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Nebraska. Any potential winnings from the bet will also go to the cause.

Go Nebraska Cornhuskers

So what are the odds of Nebraska winning in Friday’s game? Well, according to last week’s obituary, Munson was only too aware of the Cornhuskers’ poor performance so far this season.

“The grim reality of the Nebraska Cornhuskers ending another season with a record losing record proved too much to bear for Milton Andrew Munson, who decided he had seen enough of this world during the recent week off from the club. ‘team,’ the obituary joked. “The Huskers may not have sent him to the afterlife with a win, but at least they didn’t lose.”

This season, the Cornhuskers have lost eight and have won just three of their games. In their last game on Nov. 20, they suffered a 35-28 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers. The Huskers are currently second to last in the Big Ten West.

The two radio hosts leading the campaign have not confirmed what percentage of GoFundMe donations will go to betting. However, DraftKings are currently offering odds of -115 for the Huskers to claim the victory on Friday. This would pay around $ 18,695 on a bet of $ 10,000.

Munson’s son, Todd, is convinced the Cornhuskers can achieve victory with the help of his father. “If my old man’s ghost can’t lead the Huskers to victory on Friday, then they are truly a lost cause,” he said on the KOZN-AM Omaha radio show.
