National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters
The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D- NY) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) urging their support for the Local Radio Freedom Act. “This critical resolution would protect local radio stations that broadcast music as part of their programming from being required to pay significant additional royalties for new performances,” wrote NABOB chairman James Winston.
“Local radio stations are struggling to recover from the economic blows caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. while also ignoring the significant value of the free service that local radio offers to both artists and listeners, ”the letter continued.
“The Local Radio Freedom Act strengthens crucial protections against onerous performance fees that would further devastate black-owned broadcasters during an already incredibly difficult time. local radio freedom for blacks and other minorities – broadcasters who are a lifeline for the communities they serve, ”Winston concluded.
The Local Radio Freedom Act currently has 138 co-authors in the House of Representatives and 18 in the Senate.
