MSU-WP Leaders Make Changes to Athletics Leadership

WESTERN PLAINS, Missouri – Officials at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) have announced administrative changes for the athletics department.

On Friday, September 10, University Communications Director Ian Camejo assumed the role of Interim Athletic Director. He is assisted by the Director of Business and Support Services, Crockett Oaks. Both will serve until a new athletic director is selected.

Paula Wiedemann, who has been head coach of the Grizzly Volleyball team and director of athletics since June 2020, will only transition to the role of head coach. She will also continue to serve as a key liaison with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) during this time.

“As we move forward into the pandemic and towards bigger things for Grizzly Athletics, we need ‘everyone on deck’ for the next few months, and I’ve hired two of our best people to walk us through. this transition ”, MSU- said Acting Chancellor of WP Dennis Lancaster.

“With Coach Wiedemann replacing Ian and Crockett, but more importantly, with all his attention to lead his team to a normal season this fall and hopefully another appearance in a national tournament, we believe the The next few months are going to be difficult but full of enthusiasm for all of us, ”added Lancaster.

Camejo, who also has a master’s degree in sports management, will take care of the day-to-day operations of the sports department, Lancaster said.

Oaks will lead a four-man squad of Camejo, Wiedemann and Grizzly basketball head coach Jared Phay in athletics marketing, event coordination and membership recruiting. They will work closely with members of the Grizzly Squad executive committee and officials from the MSU Foundation, which now oversees Grizzly Squad fundraising activities, Lancaster said.
