David Blair, who has brought business stories to CBC Radio One listeners across the country, died earlier this week. He was 56 years old.
Blair grew up in Winnipeg and studied Marketing at the University of Manitoba. After graduating he worked in Toronto and London, UK
In 1995, he moved to Montreal to work at Radio-Canada International. For many years it has hosted Business knowledge, a weekly show that focused on how Canadian businesses are shaping the global economy.
In 2008, Blair began working as a business reporter for CBC Radio One. From CBC studios in Montreal, he joined morning shows across Canada, bringing audiences the latest business news.
His voice and insight were well known to CBC listeners in Quebec and Montreal as a regular contributor to Break away and Dawn. Blair has also often attended CBC community events in Montreal.
“As a business reporter on CBC Radio One’s morning shows, David Blair was a part of the mornings of people across the country,” said Meredith Dellandrea, senior general manager of CBC’s Quebec and Atlantic regions.
“He believed business stories were as important to morning radio listeners as the weather and traffic.”
Dellandrea added: “He was proud to make business stories accessible and understandable to a wider audience. He will be sadly missed by his colleagues at CBC Montreal.
Blair is survived by two sons, Mark and John, and his partner, Mathieu Jolicoeur.
“We could list many attributes for David, but what really stands out is his dedication and loyalty to his friends, family and everyone he loved,” his family said in an obituary.
