The new radio kit will initially be deployed to 1,000 sites and will operate in EE’s 3.4 GHz and 3.6 GHz frequency bands.
BT adds that accelerated 5G upgrades are now possible in certain areas previously restricted by building regulations or planning law, as older technology would have required an increase in mast height or the wearrance.
The first deployments are taking place in London, with sites in Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh and Belfast expected to follow.
