Baxter Health Celebrates Grand Opening of New 5 SouthOzark Radio News

Mountain House, ARK. – On Friday, August 4, Baxter Health celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated Baxter Health Auxiliary 5 South Surgical Services nursing unit with an open house attended by hospital leaders, local dignitaries and donors to the Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation. The patient-centric renovation included the addition of 6 new patient rooms and an expanded waiting room.

5 South Surgical Services is a nursing unit serving inpatients under the care of various medical specialties including orthopedics, neurosurgery, general surgery, urology, otolaryngology (ENT) and plastic surgery. Following the renovation, the unit now includes 32 patient rooms. Cosmetic changes have also been made to the unit that will enhance the experience for patients and families as Baxter Health continues to provide compassionate care.

“The Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation is excited about the newly renovated unit and believes it will help Baxter Health provide the best experience for patients and families. We are grateful for the generous donations and continued community support that helped make this remodel a possibility,” said Barney Larry, vice president/business development and executive director of Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation.

The renovation is the result of the 5 Southern Surgical Department fundraising campaign that the Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation offered to the community in July 2021. The campaign raised a total of $1.7 million for the renovation, thanks to donations of $25,000, pledged over 5 years, to renovate patient rooms and an $825,000 donation from Baxter Health Auxiliary. More than half of the funds raised through the campaign have already been donated to Baxter Health, with the presentation of a check for $1 million at the Foundation’s donors’ banquet in May.

“This campaign has been a true testament to the generosity of the community. The Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation approached the community with a need and received tremendous support in return. We are grateful to the generous donors whose donations have made this project possible,” said Sarah Edwards, Vice President/Major Giving, Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation.

The remodeling of 5 South will allow Baxter Health to continue to champion access to high-quality, compassionate care by remaining independent, strategically comprehensive and community-focused.
